An open confessional recorded on an old 4-track at home between November 2000 and February 20001. It's a candid work containing much stark and self-deprecating imagery - well, that's what it says on the press release. Just a voice and minimal instrumentation, trancelike - from the less is more school of reason. The new artwork and design is by Tim Metcalf www.moth-eaten.co.uk and features a series of wasted hospital photos [I forget exactly which one but they're from his private collection] that complement the record perfectly. The term Non Compliance is borrowed from the world of psychiatry, it's Consultant speak for those who refuse to take the medication. Of course refusal invariably leads to heartache and delusional thinking...and there's a bit of that going on here too. I've always enjoyed spoken word stuff, so this was bound to happen someday. I do the occasional poetry in the live shows too [ though I've not done a strictly poetry gig for ages ]. For better or for worse Non Compliance is an essential part of the Vinny collection and hey some of the poems even have melodies. The closing track of Growing Up With Vinny Peculiar - Egg Incident - is a direct result of Non-Compliance's experimentation and aural architecture. If you enjoyed that then this might well be worth investigation.
